hi sometime you have tons of unread mails which you havent read on purpose or havent got time to read . . to search all of them easily in gmail you can type in search field
is:unread in:inbox
then hit search
ta da! u ll get list. Maybe its not a rocket science but I didnt know few days ago 
now my inbox showing no unread message so when new mail arrives I am sure its new looking at the number beside it.
actually I always want my inbox to be clean and updated
